There were no any LCD panels produced by Chinese companies 30 years ago. But now, BOE's market shares in mobile phones, tablet computers, notebook computers, monitors and TVs continue to rank first in the world.

Over the years, BOE has invested about 7 percent of its operating revenue in research and development, and its annual R&D investment in 2020 reached nearly 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion).

Currently, the average age of employees working at BOE is 28 years old, with more than 20,000 R&D personnel and nearly 1,500 overseas senior experts.

As of 2021, BOE had accumulated more than 70,000 independent patent applications. Among the new annual patent applications, more than 90 percent were invention patents and 35 percent were overseas patents, of which patent applications in OLED, sensing, artificial intelligence, big data and other fields accounted for over 50 percent. 

According to the 2021 annual statistical report released by the patent service agency IFIClaims, BOE ranked 11th in the world in the US patent licensing rankings, rising by two places and ranking among the global top 20 for four consecutive years.

In fact, BOE is the epitome of high-end manufacturing enterprises in Beijing E-Town. 

Beijing E-Town continues to increase the intensity of R&D investment and promote the construction of technological innovation centers. 

In the field of new generation information technology, Beijing E-Town has built seven technology innovation centers, including the New Display Technology Innovation Center, the MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) Innovation Center, the Display Integrated Circuit Technology Innovation Center, and the Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Technology Innovation Center.

In the past five years, Beijing E-Town has vigorously promoted the integration of the digital economy and physical manufacturing, and improved the level of intelligent manufacturing. 

Among the four groups of Beijing's intelligent manufacturing benchmarking enterprises that have been announced, E-Town-based enterprises account for one-third of the total.

In 2021, the annual output value of the new-generation information technology industry in Beijing E-Town exceeded 100 billion yuan for the first time.
