A wasteland has now been transformed into a clean river with picturesque scenery. The current Liangshui River connects industrial parks, communities and factories, drawing a beautiful picture of a habitable Beijing E-Town.

At this time of year, many residents here walk or cycle along the pedestrian path of the Binhe Park to feel the cool autumn breeze. Kids also get to play in the children's square beside the park.

Ms. Guo, who has lived beside the Liangshui River for nearly 20 years, has witnessed the river's transformation. 

"The river used to be famous for its foul smell. In summer, the residents living by the river dared not to open their windows." Guo said.

The transformation of the Liangshui River began in 2013, when its comprehensive treatment was launched.

Beijing E-Town formulated a "one outlet, one policy" treatment plan for sewage outfalls, treating sewage with high standards. 

With the opening of Binhe Park in Beijing E-Town in 2019, the Liangshui River had been transformed into a beautiful landscape.

A large number of birds, including black swans, wild ducks, and grebes have been attracted from far and wide to the river.

Every weekend, reading sessions are held in the book houses by the Liangshui River. Ten log cabins have been built along the river, creating a cultural corridor of scholarly fragrance.

The waterfront trails and plank road platforms along the river, street lights, smart seats, trash cans and charging piles all add to residents' lives.
