Updated: 2023-04-03

Co-hosted by Beijing E-Town, 4B Technologies, and the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI), a seminar on Artificial Intelligence Empowering New Medicine Development was launched in Beijing on Mar 26.

Participants discussed the forward-looking applications of AI in the field of biomedicine, aiming to promote achievements in disease diagnosis, new medicine development, and genetic data analysis.

During the seminar, Lu Bai, professor at Tsinghua University and founder of 4B Technologies, shared insights on "how to increase the success rate of medical research and clinical trials and accelerate industrial development."

Experts and business representatives subsequently discussed two themes: "AI-driven repurposing of medicines for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis" and "exploration of innovative models for clinical research with AI assistance." A following roundtable forum was also held.

With over 3,500 registered companies, the biomedical and health industry is one of the four main leading industries in the area.

In early 2023, Beijing E-Town issued the action plan for accelerating the construction of a global industry highland of "Intelligent Manufacturing of New Medicines", aiming to reach a total industry scale of 200 billion yuan ($29.04 billion) by 2025.

This year, Beijing E-Town plans to introduce a special policy for the integration of AI intelligence, medicine, and healthcare, providing targeted policy support for enterprise development and promoting the growth of smart healthcare in the area.

Jin Wei, deputy mayor of Beijing, Zhang Jihong, director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Kong Lei, director of Beijing E-Town, and other officials, industry experts and business representatives attended the event.
