The first batch of intelligent transportation pilot application tasks of the Ministry of Transport - the "Tianjin Port to Majuqiao Logistics Park Highway Freight Automatic Driving Pilot" - officially began the project achievement on-site verification.

This is the country's first cross-provincial and cross-municipal highway automatic driving freight transportation test project.

The project was launched in 2022. 

By December 2023, the project completed the official inclusion of the Beijing section and the Tianjin section of the Jingjintang Expressway into the lane road work for automatic driving vehicles. 

The Jingjintang Expressway thus became the first domestic road to support cross-provincial and cross-municipal automatic driving tests for vehicle-road coordination.

Entering this year, China Merchants Expressway Network & Technology Holdings Co (CMET) organized Trunk.tech, Pony.ai and other enterprises to conduct real vehicle testing. 

Until recently, CMET, Pony.ai, and other enterprises participated in the project site acceptance.

Trunk.tech is the only enterprise to carry out automatic driving truck platooning transportation in the project, realizing the operation of three to five intelligent trucks in platoon with features of low spacing, millisecond-level response, and vehicle-road-cloud collaboration, further improving road traffic transportation safety. 

Previously, Pony.ai had also explored the trunk logistics and dedicated logistics freight transportation of automatic driving trucks in multiple regions in China. 

Currently, the test mileage of automatic driving trucks of Pony.ai and its joint venture company, Qingzhui Logistics, has reached nearly 4 million kilometers.
