In 2024, eight well-known foreign pharmaceutical companies have established new research and development institutions in Beijing, with six of them choosing to settle at the BioPark in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town), further deepening their business layout in China.

These six multinational pharmaceutical companies are Lilly, Pfizer, Bayer, Medtronic, Huya Bio and AstraZeneca.

Most of the newly established research or innovation institutions of these companies are the "first in Beijing" or "first in China". Their collective presence will inject strong innovative momentum into Beijing E-Town.

As a window for Beijing's opening-up to the outside world, Beijing E-Town has optimized the business environment for foreign enterprises in multiple dimensions, providing a solid foundation and broad space for the research and development of foreign enterprises, attracting numerous multinational companies to take root and grow here.

To date, the area has attracted 160 projects invested in by 105 Fortune Global 500 companies.

In the field of pharmaceuticals and health, Beijing E-Town, as an important carrier of Beijing's pharmaceutical and health industry, has gathered nearly 5,000 pharmaceutical and health enterprises covering the entire industry chain of drugs, medical devices and services. The pharmaceutical and health manufacturing industry accounts for nearly 50 percent of Beijing's total, forming a strong industrial cluster.

Beijing E-Town is now accelerating the construction of the Beijing Biomedical Innovation Park (BioPark) with the concept of innovation, internationalization and sharing. It plans to build four functional zones to meet the space requirements of enterprises for research and development, pilot testing and large-scale production.

With the settlement of multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Bayer and Medtronic, BioPark will become a leading area and gathering place for international pharmaceutical innovation resources. Beijing E-Town will continue to leverage its regional business environment advantages to attract more global pharmaceutical giants to settle there, promoting the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical and health industry.
